Hi!

I'm Meg, and I'm thirteen years old. Welcome to my site! I've just finished performing the role of Simone in the the reading of The Untitled Dancer Project at Lincoln Center. I had the honor of working with Susan Stroman, Stephen Flaherty, and Lynn Ahrens, plus so many amazingly talented cast members. This summer, I will be performing at the Goodspeed (the Norma Terris Theater in Chester, Connecticut) in Radio Girl, directed and choreographed by the amazing Christopher Gattelli, featuring music and lyrics by Henry Krieger and Susan Birkenhead, the book written by Daniel GoldfarbClick here to learn more about the people I get to work with. I'm THRILLED to be a part of this company!

My Story

I've had many people ask me questions like, "How did you break into the business?" Well, here's the beginning of my career in a nutshell.

I started out as an ice skater at the age of three. I skated very intensively and advanced speedily to the point where I won competitions against kids years older than me. I loved gliding across the glossy ice, and the feeling I got whenever I landed a difficult jump or accomplished a challenging move. I've always adored seeing shows, so when I saw children my own age acting on stage at a community theater, I knew that theater was what I wanted to do. My wonderful parents :-) enrolled me at a community theater. I loved it, and it taught me about much more than how to act. It taught me about work ethic and getting along as a group, lots of important lessons for a kid. Though it was years ago, I still use what I learned there in my work to this day.

But, it was getting harder and harder to juggle my skating and acting, as skating was becoming quite the commitment. At that age, I had to practice before and after school. A friend from skating was an actress who had been in movies and commercials. She referred me to an agent in New York. As I was at the time "too theatrical" for him, he sent me to a manager. It all worked out nicely and I returned home. Meanwhile, I had won 2nd place in a statewide skating competition, and was qualified to compete in the nationals in Colorado Springs. I would have to train vigorously to have a chance at winning.
A few days after my trip to NYC, I got a call from my manager asking if I could sing Castle on a Cloud. After an over-the-phone performance, she decided to send me on an audition for the National Tour of Les Miserables a few days later. I went, of course! So they called my mom in and asked if I could make it to the call-back a few days later....hmmmm...of course! So, after a nerve-wracking, knee-knocking call-back, they informed me that there was no part available! That was the day I learned that this business is all about letdowns.

The next day, I was at the skating rink, polishing my spins, and drilling my jumps. My mom called me to the edge of the rink, handed me her phone, and I slipped into a large closet by the skate rental booth. It was my manager! I was told that I'd be leaving in two weeks to be Cosette on tour!

So, I said 'goodbye' to my ice skates, and 'hello' to the stage! At times, I questioned this decision. I wondered what would have happened if I continued to pursue skating, but whenever I perform, I'm reminded of how much I love it!
It sure doesn't feel like a job ... it feels like a dream come true[=

“I think it’s really cool to be working as a group, because I’ve never done something with so many kids before, and it’s awesome, because we learn a lot about synergy,” said Meg Guzulescu, 12, who plays Karen Davidson.

“In other shows you come offstage and you might be like, oh, I think I did really well,” Meg continued, “but in this show there are two different levels — if you did well, and if you think you were really together as a group.”

“I get to have this group of girls in my life like sisters, and that’s especially great because I don’t have to deal with them 24/7,” she said. That drew a big laugh from her fellow ballerinas.
